Powerful Pitching Performance from Senior Lucy Bivens carries Northwest Past Hanover Horton in Game 1

Senior Lucy Bivens was dominant in the circle, as the starter rang up 11 strikeouts in the Mounties 1-0 victory over Hanover Horton on Friday.  Bivens surrendered five hits and zero runs over seven innings of work while only walking four. It was a dominant performance to start the season. 

The pitching was strong on both sides as Hanover struck out eight Mounties and limited NW to only five total hits in the game. 

Northwest was first to get on the board when Junior Hayler Gardner reached 2nd  base on a bunt and fielding error by Hanover's first baseman. 

A sacrifice bunt by Junior Nevaeh Barron set the table for Senior Ava Golightly who knocked in the game's only run with a ground ball between the shortstop and third baseman. Ava was able to beat the throw allowing Hayley Gardner to score the games only run. 

Seniors Ava Golightly and Lucy Bivens led the team in hits this game with two each.

Game 2

Northwest comes from behind to stun Hanover 8-7 on a powerful performance from Senior Ari Good

Senior Ari Good hit two home runs and drove in four as Northwest came from behind to beat Hanover 8-7 in the night cap of the double header

Northwest fell behind 1-7 through two and a half innings when Junior Hayley Gardner came in relief and slowed the Hanover hitters keeping them at bay to allow the Mountie offense to take over. 

In the bottom of the third a leadoff single by Junior Hayley Gardner got the Mountie offense started but a strikeout and a flyout put the pressure on Senior Ari Good to come up with a hit to keep the offense rolling.  Ari sent the ball deep over the left center field fence closing the scoring gap to 3-7.

Hanover was held without a run in the top of the fourth when in the bottom of the inning the Mounties mounted their ferocious comeback starting with a two out single to right by Senior Madi Dixon, followed by another sharp single by Junior Hayley Gardner.  The Mounties had runners on second and third when Junior Nevaeh Barron hit a clutch hard ground ball to right, scoring both Dixon and Gardner closing the gap to 5-7.  Senior Ava Golightly followed up with a single on  a hard ground ball to center field scoring Barron making the score 6-7.  Senior Ari Good steps in and on a 2 balls 2 strikes count, once again hits a ball deep over the left field fence to put the Mounties up for good, taking an 8-7 lead. 

Senior Lucy Bivens came on in relief to close out the game and she did by striking out the side in the top of 5th inning and two more in the top of the 6th.  The game was called due to darkness.  The Mounties will face Lumen Christi on Monday.
