2 NW Mountie Golfers Earn All-State Honors
Top Two Mountie Golfers Earn Post Season All-State HonorsJuniors Jake Brafford and Cody Rowe, the Mounties' top golfers, and two of the Jackson Area’s best players, earn post season All-State honors. Cody and Jake were both named to the 2025 Division 2 All-State 2nd Team by the MIGCA. They both had very successful spring seasons, ranking in the top 15 in Division 2 in several statistical areas. As a pair, they led the State in Eagles made this year.We are all so proud of these guys, and look forward to seeing them play over the summer in some higher-level events. We also cannot wait to watch them lead the entire team to great success next spring.

Middle School Track & Field Athletes qualified for the annual Mid Michigan MEGASTAR Meet at Shepherd High School. Thursday, June 5th, Northwest Kidder Middle School placed 5th out of the 47 schools! Coaches: Jenna Sorenson, Kevin Fairley, Ryan Blackmore & Jake Greer. Marcus Bryant placed 2nd out of 56 runners in the 70m, running a PR of 8.62. Deonco Franklin got a PR of 12.06 in the 100m, placing 15th out of 52 runners. Adam Whitney shaved 15 seconds off his PR in the 3200m with a time of 10:52, breaking the record he set by 15 seconds! Deonco Franklin took 1st in long jump with a jump of 19’ 11.75”, beating his own record by almost 2 feet! Zane White took home 2nd place in pole vault with a height of 9’6”. Boys Golf Team Finishes 6th at Regional
Boys Golf Team Finishes 6th at Regional, Will Not Head Back to the D-2 State FinalsThe Northwest Boys’ Golf Team competed in the highly competitive D-2 Regional Tournament at Island Hills GC in Centerville, Michigan Tuesday finishing tied for 6th and missing out on qualifying to play in the State Finals with a team score of 324. Vicksburg claimed the Championship firing a 304, Gull Lake was one back at 305 and Parma Western qualified 3rd with a 308.The Mounties were led by Jake Brafford who posted a 78 tying for 16th individually. Cody Rowe finished his round at 81 while Jarrett Osterberg and Riley Banks carded and 82 and 83 respectively to complete the team score. Mason Beecher was the fifth score at 93.“It was a disappointing day all the way around for the boys as they were not able to find a groove. NW Boys Track Selby Classic Results
The Northwest boy's track and field team competed last night at the Selby Classic at Jackson High School. The team members qualified in 12 events and placed 8th or better in all 12 of those events. There were 2 personal bests and 1 season best. The 4 X 800 relay team had a season best time for those members of the team placing 4th with a time of 8:57.29. The team included Griffin Mathews, Silas Shepherd, Chase Lawrence and Ashton Dack. Gage Marken was 3rd in the 110 Hurdles. Aiden Tryon was 5th in the 100 dash. The 4 X 200 relay was 3rd with a team of Hudson Cooper, Aiden Tryon, Gage Marken and Hunter Samulak. Silas Shepherd was 7th in the 1600 run. NW Mountie Golf Team finishes 3rd
Led by Tournament Champ, Cody Rowe, Mounties Finish 3rd in Field of Top TeamsThe Northwest Boys’ Golf Team competed at a Bedford Valley Invitational Thursday. In a small field of some very good teams, the Mounties post a team score of 317 just behind two of the top teams in Division 2 in Gull Lake at 312 and Grand Rapids Christian at 316. The Mounties were led by junior, Cody Rowe, who was the tournament champion, firing an even par round of 72. Junior, Jake Brafford posted an 80. Right behind him was Riley Banks with 81 and Mason Beecher with an 84 to complete the team score.“The small field of top teams played the tough course at 6500 yards. It is longest track we’ve played this spring, and the wet conditions made it even feel longer.” said Coach Cantlin. “It was the first time playing this course for three of the guys. I - 8 Track and Field Results Boys
The boy's track and field team competed at Harper Creek last night against the I - 8 teams and the weather. The team finished 6th with 27 points, which was 1 point behind Marshall. Hudson Cooper won the 400 Dash with a season best time of 50.66 and turned around and won the 200 Dash. The 4 X 800 Relay finished in 5th with a team of Griffin Mathews, Ashton Dack, Sillas Shepherd and Chase Lawrence. The 4 X 400 relay of Dack, Shepherd, Cooper and Tom Fall placed 4th. Completing the scoring was Gage Marken in the 110 Hurdles finishing 6th. There was only 1 PR last night, which was Will Frazier in the discus. Some of these athletes will be competing in the Selby Classic at Jackson High School on May 27th, which is the Jackson County meet and then of course the State meet on May 31st.
